THE COURSE (The 8th Edition of DIT available 12/10/06)
DIT provides a basic understanding of the U.S. banking
industry: what it does, how it works, and why. Authored and published by HRW, DIT is a
soft bound self-study course for individuals who have limited knowledge of depository
institutions. It is widely used by banks in a variety of in-house training programs and by
firms such as IBM to introduce personnel to the banking industry.
Depending on an individuals background, DIT can be completed in 12 to 24 hours. A
number of clients provide new hires with the DIT course before they report for assignment.

questions to test and reinforce learning.
ECONOMICS AND BANKING
Explains basic economic and monetary theories of banking, using simplified
examples and diagrams.
PRE-DEPRESSION BANKING
Shows how the economic theory explained in first section works in a social and
political environment by tracing the development of banking in the U.S. from
Colonial times to the Great Depression.

Describes the entities with regulatory powers over U.S. financial institutions;
explains their policies and the effect of these on banking practices and the
economy.
ACCOUNTING BASICS

beginning of bank operations; explains the income statement. Participants derive

and controlled.
