POLICIES & OBJECTIVES

Our objective is to make the Stanford Bank Game available at an affordable price to academic institutions in order to meet their educational mission.  This has proven to be difficult even with commercial users picking up a major portion of the cost.

NEW ACADEMIC POLICY EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2008

In late 2008 the software will be a web based product and a license will no longer be required for anyone who can use the web version of  SBG.  Students will pay a per student price to use the SBG software on our web site.  This is the only fee that will be charged. There will be no royalties associated with student materials.  With a password, instructors will be able to set up their applications (games) as they choose and they will be able to freely distribute any of the educational materials they want to use.   Students will input their team decisions and all the computer reports (instructor and student) will then be available for download.  We could not design the system to automatically e-mail reports as too many Universities have security that blocks  pdf file attachments.

Until the web version has been tested current licensees can obtain the new version by sending in the addendum to the license by snail mail.  This requires a per student fee for use of the software.   If you are a new US academic user you must complete and submit the academic license.  All users outside of the US need a combined academic/commercial license. All support for academic usage of earlier editions ends with the release of version 12.

What is academic versus commercial?

Increasingly, there are blurred lines between academic and quasi-academic activities as all institutions struggle with cost issues. We must make a distinction between accredited degree usage where individual students pay tuition and all other applications which we defined as commercial use.  For some International institutions the distinction between academic versus commercial fees is based on who is paying for the education -- individuals or some other entity (directly or indirectly).  Non-profit status is not a test and non profit pricing is available

Without revenue from non-academic usage we cannot maintain the software and price it appropriately for regular students.  The Stanford Bank Game in particular lends itself to usage in continuing education based programs for bankers and we encourage such usage at what we hope are reasonable commercial prices and fees.  Please see our commercial policies if you are an individual or an organization providing educational services to bankers.

If the standard license available here is not suitable for your organization or country, a wide variety of options are available.   If you need to have the SBG software (  students cannot use the web, offering continuing education off site, etc.) you will need a commercial license that requires you to pay a per student usage fee.  How much you pay will depend upon your situation and location. If you are not a U.S. institution please tell us as much as you can about your organization and what you would like to do (e-mail bankgame@hrwinc.com) so we can respond with the appropriate information.

Thank you for your cooperation.
